Our voices matter... My voice matters; that's what I've learned throughout this project.  I'm 14 years old and i'm from the Democratic Republic Of Congo. I used to believe that because of my age, because I'm still "young", my voice didn't matter, no matter what I say or do. But that is not true. I want people to know that their voices matter, no matter their age, gender, race. One voice is not enough; all of our voices matter.

Jousebeth

I am me. No matter where I go, I find my voice through dance. Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, modern dance teacher, choreographer, and a 17 year old young lady. I am not a definition or a thing. Life has put me in extreme situations that have made me stronger and made me think outside the box. My creative mind was built to show others things they have never seen or understood before. No matter who you are or where you are from, nobody can take your heart, soul and creativity from you. Shout and shout until the world hears you coming. You will hear me coming, and you will remember my name.

Ursule

I am 16 years old. I am from the Democratic Republic Of Congo.  Throughout this project I have learned that I have a voice and that my voice matters. Regardless of my age, race or gender, I have learned I matter. I remember always feeling like I didn't fit in anywhere, but being here in this project with these amazing girls has taught me that making my voice heard is important, I'm glad I get to do that in this dance. I would like people to know that I have a big heart and that I love loving people. And I believe as long as we all love each other, we can conquer all.

Evelyn I am 14 years, and I am a proud Mexican American. By taking part in this amazing project, I have discovered how to share my thoughts and ideas. I believe that one should not be afraid to express who they truly are because one voice can make a change. I am glad that I got to speak my mind through this powerful dance and got to share it with these other talented girls. I want people to know that I am an extremely hard worker and enjoy living life to its fullest. I like to encourage everyone to always stay positive and spread love.

Alondra I don't want to be considered your average Mexican Girl. One thing you should know about me is that I highly dislike stereotypes! People are surprised that a 16 year old like me is taking college classes. But honestly I love showing people what a young Latina can do. Through this work, I'm proving that a LATINA can dance! I'm a proud Latina and a proud dancer, that thanks to this project #BrownGirlsSpeaking...Seriously I am proving to everyone who believes otherwise of Latinas that I am a DANCER and a SCHOLAR.

Yasmin In the process of making this project with the solidarity of my dance-sisters and the mindset of my second mom (Mrs. Whitaker-Haaheim), I've realized a lot: I'm woke. I'm aware. I'm opinionated. I speak the truth whether or not people wanna hear it.  I want you to know that I didn't come from the easiest background. I've struggled. I've seen my parents struggle so our family could survive.  I haven't always had a place that was mine. My name is Yasmin. I am of Puerto Rican, Dominican and Native American descent and I'm proud. I'm only 13 years old. Surprised? Just wait;I'm an honor student full of surprises who is ready to take on the world and create change for my generation.
